Albert J. Furline, 92, of Moundsville left this world on September 12, 2018, to join his beloved wife, Bettye, to sing with the angels in heaven.

He was born on May 5, 1926, in Benwood, WV a son of Italian Immigrants, Guiseppe and Maria (Campana) Forlini.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in by his wife, Bettye; his brothers, Michael and Jerrard (Pinhead) Campana, Joseph and John (Sonny) Furline; his sisters, Christine Larkins, Annie Cole, Magadline (Florence) Quick, Hilda Hungerman, and Virginia Lee Forlini; and 1 great-grandchild.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Rush (Charles) and Pamela Crow (Dave) both of Moundsville; two grandchildren, Heather Ruthers of Moundsville and Michael Furline (Onda) of Grafton, WV; four great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Pastorius of Glen Dale, WV and 2 grand kitties.

He was retired from Allied Chemical and Olin Chemical.

He was a graduate of the class of 1944 from Union High School and was drafted into the US Army serving in WWII and the Korean War where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.

He married his wife, Bettye, in 1950 and spent the next 66 years together until her passing in 2016.

He was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Church where he was a member of the choir and for many years took care of the church, the school, and the Xavier Hall and was lovingly known to many as the sausage guy from the Saint Francis Festival.

Albert was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Purple Heart Association.

Special thanks go to his team of caregivers AKA Al’s Harem for the wonderful loving, kind and compassionate care they provided, Pat, Daunetta, Becky, Judy, Karen, Michele, Linda and his faithful neighbor, Maggie that loved him like her own father and to Amedysis Hospice for their comfort and support during his final days.

Friends will be received Sunday, September 16, 2018, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville. A vigil service will take place at 7:30 pm on Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, September 17, 2018, at St. Francis Xavier Church with Rev. That Son Ngoc Nguyen as Celebrant.

Interment will be in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV.

The Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 1251 Warwood Avenue, Suite A, Wheeling, WV 26003.

So long ole pal! Thanks for some truly wonderful and great memories from Festivals, church, and around town. My family cherished your friendship and the video that you gave us of my dad, mom, and sister, Alberta when my dad was home on leave from WWII will always be a great treasure for us for generations to come. It was a blessing to have known you….. Eternal rest grant unto you my friend and let perpetual light shine upon you. May your soul and all of the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen
