Alma Leah Heilman, 85, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, surrounded by her family. Alma was born on January 3, 1939, in Cameron, WV, the daughter of the late William F. Chambers and Nancy Ellen (Fletcher) Chambers.

In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her four sisters Lavonne (“Gib”) Strope, Thelma (Joe) Otte, and Letha (Charles) Bartrug, Eva (David) Ludwig, her twin brother Arnold (Ruth) Chambers, and her brother Harrison Chambers.

Alma is survived by her daughters Bettina Maria Heilman of Georgia; Laurey Ann (Bill) Heilman of Wheeling, WV, Tracy Lyn (Rick) Newson of Glencoe, OH, and her sister Neda Mae Kellas of Warwood, WV; and her sister-in-law Dorothy Chambers of Sherrard, WV; six grandchildren Laura’Lee (Gary) Wiechman, Micha Gonzalez, Alyssa Vetanze, Matthew (Stephanie) Heilman, Justin (Jennifer) Heilman, and Joshua (Jessica) Heilman; 18 adorable great-grandchildren and several amazing nieces and nephews.

Alma will be remembered for her selflessness, love of football, word search puzzles, and as an avid collector of chicken decor. She cared deeply for her family and friends. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She will forever be cherished as a beloved mother, grandmother, and Nan’Nan.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes Wheeling Chapel with a Celebration of Life officiated by Sarah Barickman at 7:00 pm. Following her cremation, Alma will be inurned at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens at a date and time to be determined.

My mom was the strongest person I have ever met. She never asked for help from anyone. We always done things as a family. Every summer we would go to Grandma and Grandpa’s house and spend two weeks there. It was one of the best times. We always done something together every Sunday we would have popcorn and Pepsi watching Walt Disney. Every weekend it was always something that was planned. This is where I get my strength from it’s from this woman. I love you Mommy.

It’s been years since I have seen or spoke to Grandma but never a day passed where she didn’t cross my mind. I am forever thankful for her and for raising my mom the way she did. Without her instilling the morals and ethics in my mom, I wouldn’t have been raised to be the man I am today. Although miles away, she still found a way to impact my life over the years. She will be missed but never forgotten – Justin & Jennifer Heilman
