Brenton Dennis Murphy passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 9, 2018 after a courageous and hard fought battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He leaves behind his 8 year old son, Liam Connor Murphy, who is his greatest love and proudest accomplishment. Brent will be missed everyday by his loving parents, James and Jeanne Murphy, his three sisters Annathea (Joseph) Nackrelli, Elyse (Joseph) Knight, and Breauna Murphy, two nieces Taylar Nackrelli and Hattie Knight, and four nephews Benjamin Knight, Eli Knight, Carson Knight, and Cohen Nackrelli, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Brent was born on February 23, 1982 in Clarksburg, WV. He loved playing with his son, a good meal, a hot cup of coffee, the outdoors, vintage t-shirts, camping, and being surrounded by his family and friends. Brent had a kind heart, a quick wit, and a quiet demeanor. When he told a joke, you would laugh for a while.
Brent graduated from West Liberty University with a degree in Mathematics and had accepted a position as an Adjunct Professor to teach math at his alma mater prior to his diagnosis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17 at Altmeyer Funeral Home 1400 Eoff Street Wheeling, WV 26003. The family will accept visitors on Sunday, December 16 from 4:00-6:00 pm as well as Monday beginning at 1:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a celebration of Brenton’s life.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The Liam Connor Murphy Trust 584 Pasture Brook Road Severn, MD 21144 or simply enjoy a Guinness in Brent’s honor.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I never had the privilege of meeting Brenton, but it sounds like he is deeply loved and I am sure that he has left many wonderful memories for you to look back on. As you reflect on these memories, please take comfort in the scripture at 2 Thessalonians 2:16,17. May God strengthen you and bring you comfort during this difficult time as we await the fulfillment of his promise of a resurrection. (Acts 24:15; Revelation 21:4) My deepest condolences to Brenton’s family and friends.
Mrs. Nackrelli and family,
Although we did not know your brother we can imagine him having the same gentle and kind soul as you do. We will continue to pray for you and share our love during this time.
I loved Brent like a brother. I was lucky enough to talk to him last month. I am his sons uncle. I’m so happy he was in my wedding. He was a strong man stronger than I could ever be. He would tell me his treatments weren’t that bad and that he always said he felt pretty good. I will never forget him. My wife and I love you Brent. My throghts and prayers are with your family
I am so sorry for your loss. I have heard so many wonderful things about Brent, I feel as if I knew him. May God bless all of you and comfort you during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. With deepest sympathy.
Brent was a good friend, I hope I’ll never forget playing hide and go seek with him, his sisters, and the rest of the neighborhood. He had a great childhood together and I will miss him and his smile. May god reach out his arms and lift you up to paradise to watch over your son together. I will see you again one day till then “I bid you far wind and calm seas”
I will never forget Brenton befriending me without question when I started at Notre Dame. We got into some wild stuff but he Always stuck by me … he was a great guy and he loved his family and friends … my thoughts and prayers with the family.
