Carole Ann Sacco, of Wheeling, WV passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Liza’s Place.
She was born March 5, 1943, the daughter of the late Michael J. and Josephine (Bober) Shapaka. Carole, a graduate of Wheeling Central High School and Ohio University, was formerly employed as a teacher at the Blessed Trinity School, Crittenton Services as a Licensed Social Worker and retired from the St. Clairsville Public Library. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, the Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary, the auxiliary of St. John’s Home for Children and a past member of St. Mary’s Women’s Club.
Carole was a beloved wife, mother and “Nunnie” to the “five best grandchildren.” She truly relished in this capacity, being the foundation for her loved ones, with humility and quiet leadership. Carole not only believed in family traditions, she initially sought them out from extended family members to continue them on to her children and loved ones. She was always full of love and acceptance for every person she encountered by helping them to believe in themselves and excel in their own lives.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Philip M. Shapaka, and brother-in-law, Gregory S. Sacco.
Carole is survived by her loving husband, of 52 years, Orlando “Lanny” Sacco; three children, Kristin Marie and her husband Dale Smith of St. Clairsville, OH, Kevin Matthew and his wife Lori (Brown) Sacco of St. Clairsville, and Megan Kathleen and her husband Jason Bailey of Winchester, VA; five grandchildren, Caroline Smith, TJ Sacco, Kelsey Smith, Sadie Bailey and Luke Bailey; two sisters-in-law, Gina Sacco and her husband Bob Wilson and Shirley Shapaka; two nieces, Adrienne Marie Wilson and Rachel Wilson and beloved Craig B. Leone and his family of Cleveland, OH.
Family and friends will be received Friday, September 28, 2018 from 2-8 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 1400 Eoff St. with a vigil service at 2pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 29, at 10:30 am, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, with Monsignor Kevin Quirk officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
