TOGETHER AGAIN
HIERONIMUS, Charles E., 87, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 at home surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones.
He was born May 6, 1930 in Wheeling, a son of the late Harry and Clara (Bromer) Hieronimus. Chuck was retired from the Mountaineer Gas Co., after a 45 year career that began as a draftsman and ended up as vice president. He was a lifelong member of Hope United Methodist Church which he dearly loved. He taught Sunday school, VBS, was on its various boards, sang in the choir, and lately worked tirelessly in the food pantry helping people get food who were hungry. Chuck also hung out with the “Retired guys”, a group of handymen who did odd jobs for free for those in need. He was a Wheeling High School graduate (1948), where he played football. Chuck had numerous interests including woodworking, farming (raising beef cattle), gardening (which including growing arguably some of the best sweet corn in Marshall county, and canning “Grandma Hieronimus’s chili sauce”.
Chuck’s optimism and smile were contiguous. His favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” and were words that he lived by.
He also attended the Vineyard Church and participated in the “Grief Share program” after his wife passed away. His Credo about his time on Earth was “Life is working hard, helping others, and making a lot of good memories.”
He dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be sorely missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann (Kindelberger) Hieronimus, four sisters, Mary Kay Robinson, Jean Pfefferman, Nancy Jaquay, and Phyllis Kaufman, and one brother, James Hieronimus.
He is survived by two sons, Keith (Terri) Hieronimus of Wheeling, and Terry (Patty) Hieronimus of Washington, Pa.; four grandchildren, Jason (Mia) Hieronimus of Oakland, Md., Justin Hieronimus of Wheeling, Caitlin (Chad) Miller of Tornado, W.Va., and Ryan Hieronimus of Washington, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Kale, Addison, Tate, and Emmie of Oakland, Md.; one niece, and several nephews.
Friends will be received on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 9 am until time of funeral service at 10 am at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, with Rev. Want to express our sympathy as we just learned of Charles’ passing. For some reason, he came to my mind today. The last time we saw him was at Jean’s funeral. We lived next door to Jean and Harold for years. They were always such kind people. Please know we will always remember them.
My sincerest sympathy to all of the family. You were blessed with the best. Love & hugs…
Keith and Terry… I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I only just learned of his passing today. Lots of good memories. The church socials, skating at the Downs, Camping, choir, Christmas plays and fun at Halloween when Chuck and Keith dressed the same, and always helping others. Love to the entire family…
May the memories you hold, deep in your heart get you through this difficult time.
Dear Patty and family I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I worked with Chuck in Wheeling at Columbia Gas of West Virginia…I have many good memories of Chuck both at work and of socializing with our families. Later on when we
became Mountaineer Gas, Chuck showed his leadership skills as Vice President. He always had your back . I know his family and friends will miss him as will I…
Dear Keith, Terri, Terry and Patty,
We are saddened by the loss of Uncle Chuck and are sorry to miss the services being held for him. I have so many great memories of family vacations and holidays and, of course, Uncle Chuck is a big part of those. I miss and love you all and you are in my thoughts. Hope to see you soon.
Love, Gail
