Dana E. Burkhart, 71, of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at Wheeling Hospital. He was born on November 6, 1952, in Wheeling, WV, the son of the late Walter Eugene Burkhart and Georgia (Coffman) Hall.

Dana had a fulfilling career as a Mechanic with OVRTA, where he dedicated his time and skills to keeping the vehicles running smoothly. Outside of work, he had a deep passion for music and was a well-known bass player with the Ohio Valley band, Easy Street. Dana’s talent extended beyond the bass, as he also enjoyed playing the banjo. Another pastime that brought him great joy was fishing, which allowed him to relax and appreciate the beauty of nature.

Dana was a devoted husband and family man. He was married to his beloved wife, Carol (Arthur) Burkhart, for 50 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Dana was a loving father to his daughter, Amy (Buddy) Bierkortte, and his son, David (Sarah) Burkhart. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren: Hannah and Levi Bierkortte and Coldin, Brooke, and Brayden Burkhart. Dana also leaves behind a loving sister, Lona (Bill Vance) Charley.

In addition to his parents, Dana was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Burkhart, and his sister, Debra Braun.

Dana will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His warm smile, kind heart, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many.

Services for Dana will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV. Visitation will take place on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and on Tuesday, starting at 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am.

Dana was a man I always looked up to. His work ethic and passion for music was inspiring. The day I met my future wife I had the pleasure of introducing her to him. I wanted to impress her. I remember listening from David’s downstairs bedroom Dana’s progression during his banjo practices. He was relentless and dedicated until he finally found his way. Death will be no different than life for Dana, that is what I believe. Until we meet again sir.
