Daniel “Danny” Leo Niggemeyer passed away on January 13, 2022, in Summersville, WV at the age of 70. He was born in Wheeling WV on June 19, 1951, and was educated at St.Mary’s School for Exceptional Children in St. Louis, MO, Lincoln School in Wheeling, WV, and the Deveraux Foundation in Philadelphia, PA. Despite mild intellectual challenges, Danny was remarkably resilient and always eager to learn. He was an accomplished home painter and displayed amazing carpentry skills. He was employed in the maintenance department at Wheeling College, and later worked at True Value Hardware on Washington Ave. in Wheeling. His time at the True Value store represented one of the happiest experiences of his life due to the unconditional support he received from owners Don and Nancy Meredith. Danny greatly enjoyed Rock and Roll music, tools, photography, and travel. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Justina (Nesline) Niggemeyer, sister Jane Carver, and infant brother James. He is survived by his brother-in-law Albert Carver of TX, nephews, Clifford (Sassa) Carver of OR and Justin (Sarah) Carver of CA, and cousins Patrick (Marianne) Philipps, Dennis (Kathy) Philipps, Mary (Frank) Stoy, and Lee Childers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday January 19, 2022, at St. Michael’s Parish in Wheeling. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements by Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling.

I cannot tell why He Whom angels worship,
Should set His love upon the sons of men,
Or why, as Shepherd, He should seek the wanderers,
To bring them back, they know not how or when.
But this I know, that He was born of Mary
When Bethlehem’s manger was His only home,
And that He lived at Nazareth and laboured,
And so the Saviour, Saviour of the world is come

Sing the song Londonderry Air if there is room in the Service
I cannot tell why He Whom angels worship,
Should set His love upon the sons of men,
Or why, as Shepherd, He should seek the wanderers,
To bring them back, they know not how or when.
But this I know, that He was born of Mary
When Bethlehem’s manger was His only home,
And that He lived at Nazareth and laboured,
And so the Saviour, Saviour of the world is come

Danny was a very special person. I attended St. Michael’s and Danny’s sister Janie was my best friend. We spent lots of time with Danny playing music and singing together. He always brought a smile to our faces. May he Rest In Peace and meet up with his special family in Heaven.
