Darla Sue (Pennybacker) Matheny, 78, of McMechen WV passed away June 24th, 2022 at Liza’s Place with family by her side.
Darla was born September 22nd, 1943 in Wheeling WV a daughter of the late Thomas “Tim” and Fonda (Baird) Pennybacker.
She was a Christian by faith and a homemaker. Darla graduated from Union High School class of 1961, Benwood WV. She was a military wife who was stationed at many different U.S. Air Force base locations around the world where, for 25 years, she worked as a nursing assistant and coached her daughters and son’s various ball teams. She enjoyed spending time with her family and church members, cooking, shopping, planting and caring for her flowers. Her family fondly called her Mrs. Clean and will sadly miss her crazy antics.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Matheny, daughter Tammy Matheny, daughter-in-law Sherri Matheny, sister and brother-in-law Sally and Chester Quigley, nephew Tim Quigley.
Surviving are her children, son Michael Matheny, McMechen and daughter Mindy (Frank) Pavilonis, Myrtle Beach, SC;grandson Michael (Samantha) Matheny and great-grandchildren Sophia and Michael III, Marietta OH; nieces Darla (John) Minor Moundsville WV, Jane (Jim) Laughlin Wheeling WV, Susan Quigley Glen Easton WV.
A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church 4th Street, McMechen on Wednesday June 29th at 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of McMechen, 30 4th Street McMechen WV 26040.
