Donald James “Don” Gaus, 82, of Valley Grove, WV, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at home with his loving wife by his side.

He was born in Wheeling on October 2, 1940, a son of the late Bernard W. and Anna Rose (Suter) Gaus. Don was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and a US Navy Veteran. He was a 1958 graduate of Triadelphia High School. Following his time in the Navy, Don went to work for the News Register in the 60’s and in 1965 worked for Pittsburgh Post Gazette as a printer. Don was a member of CWA Local 7 and the Elks Lodge – Wheeling.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Infant Tommy Gaus and John “Jack” Gaus and his wife Charlotte Gaus.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Susan (Showalter) Gaus; one brother, Bernard G. (Crystal) Gaus; two sisters, Mary Kay (Butch) Ackerman and Ruth (Craig) Stephan; his sister-in-law, Sally (Walter) Minter and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice for all of their wonderful care and support. They would also like to acknowledge his special care giver, Mary Valentino from IC Care.

Family and friends will be received Monday, November 14, 2022 from 10 am until time of service at 11:30 am at First Christian Church, 1343 National Rd. with Pastor Kenny Hardway officiating.

Don,I remember visiting Don and family on Edginton Lane,than visiting family on McGraws Run. Fun at the 4th July picnics. Remember crazy Steeler fan. Don was so proud of his brothers and sisters,he would beam when he talked about them.Don will be missed.

Mr. Don was a very dear man. He loved his wife so much always giving her a kiss. I enjoyed dancing on the patio with him. He was always making up little limericks to sing to me. I will miss him very much. I will always remember him. I enjoyed caring for him.
