Dorothy Jean (Mounts) Stein, 92, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Liza’s Place after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.

Dot was born August 31, 1930 in Washington, Pa, daughter of the late Elmer and Dorothy McClay Mounts. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Wheeling, WV and a retired bridal consultant at the former Horne’s Department Store in Wheeling, WV.

She was an avid reader; her favorite author was Danielle Steele. She spent her winters in Florida where she enjoyed playing golf, never using a cart. Watching golf on television gave her much enjoyment always wanting Phil Mickelson to win.

In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband Jack Stein in 1994, and one sister, Shirley Weaver. She is survived by her three children, Debbie (Rick) Clark and Judy (Larry) Ebbert, both of Wheeling, WV, and Jack “Mike” (Kathleen) Stein of St Petersburg, FL. Two brothers, Skip Mounts and Denny (Kim) Mounts both of Washington, Pa. Eight grandchildren, Desiree, Christine, Joshua, Stacey, Adam, Hannah, Jack, and Heidi. Nine great grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank Diane Costain for her dedication in caring for our mother. They would also like to thank the staff at Liza’s Place for their compassion and excellent care given to her.

Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, WV on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 2-8 pm where services will be held on Thursday at 11 am with Rev. Kenneth Hardway officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church, 1343 National Rd., Wheeling, WV 26003, or online by clicking the link above.

It was a joy to hear your voice on the phone during our long-distance -friendship phone calls. It always brightened my day to catch up with the goings in your family and to share my life as an adult with you. When i would leave the Ohio valley id be a happier person after i got to spend a little time with you chatting at your home and occasionally meeting for lunch. You’ve been a constant in my life and i am a better person for being able to count you among my friends. Journey well, my dear and special friend. Give my love to Jack.
To Dotties family, i wish you love, peace and may the precious memories of your mom ease your heartache.
