Ellen Rita (Cianfarani) Lucas, 89, of Glen Dale, WV, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
Ellen was born October 23, 1931 in Benwood, WV, a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Maria (Cavaliere) Cianfarani. She was a graduate of the former Union High School, Benwood, and attended the B.M. Spurr School of Practical Nursing and West Virginia Northern Community College. She was a retired L.P.N. for Reynolds Memorial Hospital and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Glen Dale.
Ellen loved to crochet, was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, SC, for family vacations. In addition, Ellen was an avid sports fan, a member of the Moundsville Country Club and enjoyed the game of golf later in life. She could always be seen around the valley with her husband attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, even making two trips to Cooperstown, NY to watch baseball tournaments.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Stanley Jasinski; and nephew, John Jasinski. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Lawrence G. Lucas, Sr.; a son, Lawrence G. Lucas, Jr. (Susan) of Glen Dale; a daughter, Sharon A. Twigg (Bernard) of Glen Dale; a sister, Roseanne Jasinski of Glen Dale; two sisters-in-law, Shirley M. Lucas of Benwood and Linda McPeek (Richard) of Glen Dale; five grandchildren, Leanne Goddard (Zeke) of Glen Dale, Lauren Krupica (Dr. Troy) of Morgantown, WV, Ryan Twigg of Moundsville and Joshua and Jacob Lucas of Glen Dale; and five great-grandchildren, Elayna Twigg, Lilliana Goddard, Gunner Goddard, Adalyn Twigg and Louise Krupica.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Marcia Haught and the staff at Reynolds Memorial Hospital and Amedisys Hospice, for the excellent care Ellen received over the years.
In accordance with Ellen’s wishes, visitation and services will be private. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Jude Catholic Church, at a date to be determined, when it is safe for all to attend.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center, 125 18th Street, Wheeling, WV 26003, or online at www.tmcfunding.com.
Arrangements by Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyerfuneralhomes.com.
