On January 30, 2023 Ethel Frances Clemont was called home to the house prepared for her by our Dear Lord to be with her husband Herbert L Clemont. She was born on November 30, 1924, the daughter of Emily (Arthur) Smith and Peter J Smith. Ethel was referred to as Mommy by her three sons, but she had many family members and friends who called her Mom. She was a caring soul that was the first to step up for others in their times of need to lend a shoulder to cry on, to act as a support to help us stand straight and give us the courage to carry on through difficult times. A sharp mind and a nurturing soul but a firm hand and strong will that made those who loved her better people because she would not allow them to be anything less. She will be missed by all of those she touched and will be welcomed home by her husband who’s first words will be “What took you so Long”
She never hesitated to put the needs of others ahead of herself as evidenced by her volunteer work with the Salvation Army, Macedonia Scholarship Committee, Willing Workers Committee, Catholic Women’s League Soup Kitchen and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 89, Macedonia Usher Board and the Peterson Sewing Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents Emily and Peter Smith of Wheeling and sister Josephine Reed also of Wheeling. She is survived by her three sons, Herbert (Bo) Clemont and Michael Clemont, Granddaughter Rachelle Clemont of Warwood and Curtis Clemont, Daughter-In-Law Kate Clemont, Grandsons Curtis John and Jack Clemont of Rochester NY, Brother-In-Law, John Clemont of Roanoke VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Valley Hospice for the care they provided while in their hands, especially nurses Courtney Groux and Jane Jett. And a very special thanks to her best friend and Nurse’s Aide Angie Sayre who was faithfully by her side from day one to her final breath. May the Lord bless them all.
Friends will be received on Friday February 3, 2023 from 2-4PM and 6-8 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St, Wheeling WV 26003. Services will be held on Saturday February 4, 2023at 11 AAM at Macedonia Baptist Church, 105 12th St, Wheeling WV 26003.
