The Matriarch of our family, Eva Irene Sayre of McMechen, WV, went home to be with her lord and savior, Jesus Christ, and join her beloved husband, Telford, of 75 years on May 17, 2018. She passed at Liza”s Place surrounded by loved ones as she always was throughout her 92 beautiful years of life. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Eva was born on May 23, 1925, in Millwood, WV to the late Elijah & Lucy Flesher.
She was a retired employee of the Kroger Company and a member of the Benwood-McMechen United Methodist Church. Eva enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, working crossword puzzles and talking with people. She never knew a stranger. Her entire life she always sacrificed her needs for the needs of her family and others. She always had a smile on her face, and an undescribable strength that inspired all. She would look at the positive side of situations and say “There’s nothing that you can do about it anyway. It will be alright.” She was a friend and “ grandmother “ to all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Telford; four brothers, Everette, Lloyd, Raymond and Robert Flesher and sister, Ethel Markwell.
Her legacy lives on in her three children of whom she was most proud, Michael (Diane) Sayre, Patricia (Gary) Sheppard and Janet (Norman) Rhodes. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a surviving brother Ralph Flesher of CA. She was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday May 20, 2018 from 11am until the time of service at 3pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville with Rev. Wesley Howsare officiating.
Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Liza’s Place (Valley Hospice) at 10686 OH-150 Rayland OH, 43943.

HAPPY GRADUATION – Happy Graduation you’re now with the King of Kings
Transported to his presence carried up on angels wings
Your earthly life has ended and even though we’re sad
You will never be in pain again and for that we are glad
We can see you walking with the Lord down the streets of gold
Being welcomed by so many and walking with the saints of old
As much as we miss you and wish we were there with you
For whatever reason we have more work to do
Now that you’re around God’s throne please lift us up in prayer
Ask the Lord to give us strength until we join you there
We are brokenhearted but we know the Lord knows best
Enjoy your eternity for you have earned your heavenly rest

Found a Friend
I was taken from Peterson Rehab by ambulance to Liza’s Place, September 2017. There I watched a spry, 92 year old Eva Sayre walk all around the place unaided. I couldn’t do anything but lay in my bed for days. I got six days physical therapy after asking a social worker. Some where along the line I got to know Eva as a true friend and her beauty of a family were all just great people. She’s up there now resting with others that were waiting to welcome her to be with our Lord.

It was always uplifting to spend time with Eva who gave wonderful example of Her Love for Family and Good Natured sharing with her Beautiful Smile Even when her memory was clouded by health episodes she would pleasantly acknowledge the problem. May we All age as Pleasantly, and our Happy Memories fill the emptiness of her absence.
Our Sympathy to You in Your Loss.

Dear Ones —
It’s been a blessing, to have such a number of lovely visits with Eva; but, the most special visit was on May 2nd. She said that she was cold, so I got her sweater and helped her on with it; then, I opened half of the French door, and the loveliest warm breeze came into her room. We celebrated that warm breeze, just like two little girls having a party; then, we started our conversation which lasted a little over an hour (precious time with precious Eva).
We talked about life, and death, and God, and family, and the fullness of the life that God had given her; and, Eva was quite content. I want you to know the impression she gave me that day; it was the reassurance that she was looking forward to “what was ahead” . . . she seemed quite ready to go on to that “best part” that was yet to come.
And now, while I’m sorry for your loss (our loss), I’m glad and grateful that Eva is now living that “Best Part.”
May God’s peace and blessings be yours during this most tender season; and, may He give you many lovely memories, so that you may always have roses in December.

Ever hoping . . .
Always in Jesus,

Maryann (Music Ministry Volunteer)
