Frederick Simmons, 87, of Wheeling, passed away peacefully, at Good Shepherd Nursing home Friday, December 24, 2021.
Frederick was born May 26, 1934 to the late Francis Kersey and Irene Duerr. Frederick worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp for many years, as the head of standardization. He also worked with the youth doing Junior Achievement. Frederick was an avid gardener, as well as an athlete.
Surviving are his loving wife, of 67 years, Mary Ann Simmons; his three children, Paul (Lisa) Simmons, Lisa Marie Simmons, and David (Melissa) Simmons; two brothers Thomas Salkovick and Donald (Sandy) Salkovick; eight grandchildren Ryan (Jeanie) Simmons, Alyssa (RJ) Vargo, Scott McDonald, Colin (Emily) McDonald, Brooks, Jonathan, Spencer and Anna Simmons; and one great grandchild Caleb Simmons.
Friends will be received from 1-3, prior to the service beginning at 3, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St. Wheeling. The family does ask for masks to be worn for your safety and the safety of others.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Soup Kitchen Greater Wheeling.
So sorry for your loss. I too will miss talking to Fred, i.e., when we would meet in the
our alley as he frequently walk his dog. I always gave his dog a Milk Bone treat which he liked. We enjoyed our friendly prodding of each other. God Bless!
