Gregory Neil Sheldon
Gregg Sheldon, 79, passed away Monday, March 29, 2021, peacefully at home, joining hands in heaven with his mother, Regina (Naylor) Sheldon, father, Cecil Sheldon, and daughters, Christina (Sheldon) Rahi and Kimberly Sheldon.
Gregg was born and raised in Wheeling, WV, proud of his upbringing on Wheeling Island. He is survived by his wife – the love of his life – Palma Sheldon (Socha), with whom he was married for 55 years, his son, Mark Sheldon, his son-in-law, Ramsey Rahi, and his granddaughters, Kylie and Kayla Rahi.
Gregg was a 1959 graduate of Wheeling High School, and a 1963 graduate of West Liberty State College. As a youth, he worked as a lifeguard at the downtown YMCA, and later in life was a dedicated employee for 30 years at WESCO, happily retiring in 2009.
He was an honored member of the Army Reserve, an active member of St. Joseph Cathedral, and most importantly a beloved husband, dad, and Pappap. Gregg was active in his Bethlehem neighborhood and most enjoyed sitting on his front porch with his love Palma.
The family would like to thank the staff at Amedysis Hospice for all the care, love and support during this difficult time.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 12-3 pm & 5-8 pm, with a vigil service at 7:30 pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 1400 Eoff St, where funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, at 10:00 am. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Palma & Mark, So very sorry to see that Gregg has passed. We could not have a had a better neighbor on North Erie Street. I purchased my first car from the Gregg & Palma. I loved that ’63 Chevy Impala $100. The steering wheel was HUGE. RIP Gregg-Wheeling Island neighbor-another original Island Rat gone. He’s enjoying seeing his daughters again. My thoughts and prayers for the family.

My sincere condolences to you and family. Gregg was a very kind and decent person who will be missed my me and his many friends. I have many fond memories of our growing up on the Island; and being close friends at Madison, Wheeling High and West Liberty. Pleased that we were able to share some time together during my last trip home. Since the Coronavirus may keep us apart, know that I’ll be with you in spirit. God bless you. Larry McNickle
