Helge Brigitte Terrill, 78, of Wheeling, WV passed away Friday, September 23, 2022 peacefully at home with her loving and devoted husband of fifty-seven (57) years, Charles, by her side.

Helge was born in Lampertheim, Germany to the late Ludwig and Katharine (Wetzel) Rupp on October 26, 1943.

Born during World War II, Helge held memories of experiencing the American bomb raids in Germany having shared stories of running with her family to seek refuge in nearby bomb shelters. That was just the beginning of what would become a very full life with many memorable experiences. At the age of twenty (20) Helge was swept off her feet by a US Army soldier, Charles Terrrill. For the remainder of Charles’s career, twenty-seven (27), Helge was right by his side as a very devoted Army wife. Helge held her own career in the service as well. Working in the US Army and Air Force Exchange Service as a bakery manager, she and her staff served up delicious treats and donuts to the enlistees. In addition to her professional role, Helge took on a vital role as mentor, caregiver, and confidant to other Army wives as her husband rose in the Ranks. She took great pride in being there for the other wives when tragedy struck, families were moved and any time aid was needed. Although she was a native German and proud of her heritage, Helge studied hard to become an American Citizen March 9, 1978 in Springfield, MO. She was very proud to be an American Citizen.

In addition to her parents, Helge is joined in death by her brothers; Erwin, Ludwig, Hans and Karl Rupp, sisters; Katha Bertell, Else Glueck, Anni Hausberger, Christine Rupp, Hilde Hoffman and Maria Adams.

Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life is her loving and devoted husband, Charles Terrill, Niece Marion and several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends will be received Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 12 (noon) to 3:00 pm and Monday 10:00 am until time of service at 12 (noon) at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling, WV.   Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery on National Road in Wheeling, WV with Chaplain Jon Hudmall presiding.

I have so many fond memories of Aunt Helge that I could not possibly list them all. She was always a fun person to be around and would light up a room with her presence and gorgeous red hair. We had many long conversations reminiscing beautiful memories of Germany that I will cherish forever. I am going to miss you so much, Aunt Helge. Forever in my heart. Bis wir uns wieder treffen ... Ich liebe dich.

Aunt Helge was a delightful woman to be around! As a child, she would tell me stories of her home in Germany, how to speak Deutsch and her cooking was fabulous especially her gravy. I will always cherish that time spent. I always wondered how she managed being so far from home and learned my own ways how much strength it takes. I enjoyed telling her stories and places I visited while living in Germany. Ich liebe dich Aunt Helge.
