Joan (Young) Anthony, 88 of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at Liza’s Place, Valley Hospice Care Center South, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Joan was born to the late Harold and Ethel (Colvin) Young in Wheeling, WV on March 9, 1935. There was nothing she loved or cared about more than her family. Spending time with and caring for her family brought her a great amount of joy. Joan was Catholic by faith and a very faithful member of St. Michael’s Parish. In addition to being active at her church, she was also active in the Wheeling area having been a member of Christian Mothers. SSJ Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels Auxiliary, Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary and a generous supporter of numerous local non profit organizations. Animals and wildlife held a tender spot in Joan’s heart, she appreciated their companionship, faithfulness and beauty.

In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-four (44) years, Samuel Anthony, a beloved son, Scott Joseph Anthony and her brother H. David Young.

Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her devoted children; David (Joann) Anthony of Wheeling, WV, Thomas (Chris) Anthony of Wheeling, WV, Jay (Donna) Anthony of Tampa, FL, Jodi (Vic) Proietti of Bluffton, SC; eight (8) grandchildren, one (1) great grandchild, and many loving and devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, Godchildren and extended family.

Family and friends will celebrate Joan’s life with a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 5, 2023 at St. Michael’s Parish at 1:00pm with interment at Mt. Calvary to follow. There will be no visitation. Please share memories and condolences at

Joan was such a kind and caringperson. We volunteered together in the gift shop at Wheeling Hospital. I was also a substitute in her euchre club. She truly loved all of you. Memories are always precious. Jamesie Beecroft
