John Arthur Fitzpatrick, 75 of Wheeling, WV , passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Liza’s Place, Wheeling.

He was born March 2, 1941 in Wheeling to the late John J. and Louise Martina (Bott) Fitzpatrick.

John was employed by the AEP Mitchell Plant where he started as a laborer and worked his way up to a supervisor, he retired after 27 years of service.

He was a 1959 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School, a lifetime member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Wheeling where he belonged to the St, Vincent Mens Organization and was a  member of the Elm Grove Civics where he served as a trustee and Bingo worker . John helped work the Beast of the East Tournament and 4th of July firework display and was a member of the Elm Grove Eagles where he bowled on their team for several years. John was an avid bowler, golfer and NASCAR fan, he was a lover of the sport even before it was popular. He just watched a race last Sunday with his cousin/brother, Pete Ricker. John also coached all three of his children in baseball, softball and basketball and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and WVU Mountaineer football fan.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Josie Bokanovich and many other loved ones.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Margie “Marge” Fitzpatrick of Wheeling; three children, Richard (Kelly) Fitzpatrick of Wheeling, Sherri (Paul) Newton of Charleston, SC and Thomas (Cindy) Fitzpatrick of Wheeling; four sisters, Mary (Gerald) Chadwick of Washington, PA, Emma (James) Derrow of Wheeling, Louise (Jim) Folmar of Boca Raton, FL and Paula (Jay) Teacoach of Wheeling; six grandchildren, Kayla(Justin) Lendon, Kyler, Sarah and Madisen Fitzpatrick and Lindsey and Brady Newton; four great grandchildren, Owen, Stella, Chloe and Aurora; fifteen nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A Vigil service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where friends will be accepted for visitation from 3:30-8pm Tuesday, March 8.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at St. Vincent De Paul at 10am with Msgr. Paul Hudock serving as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.

Marge & family: so sorry to hear of John’s passing. I enjoyed working along with John @ the Civics doing bingo and working concession for Beast of the East. He was a good guy!!

Dear Margie and Family, I am so sorry about John. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I always enjoyed seeing you and John at the Bargain Barn, the two of you were among my favorite customers. He will be sadly missed. Don Gaus
