02/01/1943 - 01/05/2024

John (Pap) Edward Henry, 81, of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, surrounded by family.

John was born February 1, 1943 in Wellsburg, WV, the son of the late Edna Henry Durbin.  He retired from Swisher International, where he worked for over 40 years.

In addition to his mother, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years Shirley Henry and his brother Wilford Henry.

John is survived by two sisters Sandra Shumaker of Somerset, PA, and Nancy McWhorter of Vista, AZ, his two children daughter Tammy (Terry) Haley of Wheeling and son John (Terri) Henry of Martins Ferry; five grandchildren: Jaime (Ryan) Young of Wheeling, Daniel (Karly) Haley of Steubenville, Nichole Eikey of Wheeling, Danielle Przelenski of Martins Ferry, and Max Prezlenski of Martins Ferry.  Additionally, he leaves a legacy of seven great-grandchildren, Leah, Maggie, Olivia, Dominic, Vincent, Austin, and Ben.

John and Shirley were a true example of love.  They enjoyed traveling, trying new restaurants, taking their beloved dog Bailey on trips to Amish Country and spoiling their grandchildren.  They are together again and will always be in our hearts forever.

A private celebration of life is planned for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV.

RIP Boilerman. You will be missed, but remembered for the person you were. Funny, kind, generous, a joy to be around. You could always make me laugh. You were a big help to me with the credit union. You would call me Moneybags. I hope you and Shirley are checking out all the buffets. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy are surrounding your family. Sue Blevins

John & Shirley were our first and only friends when we moved here from NJ circa 1993. Their love for each other spilled over to their children and grandchildren. John took us under his wing and Shirley never let a birthday or Christmas pass by without a proper celebration! I felt really alone here until the Henry’s befriended us. We often will go somewhere for ribs or to Sugar Creek and our memories of good times flood our hearts. There is not better example of a true friend than John and Shirley. My deepest condolences go out to the entire family. I’m glad this pair is reunited.

John worked with my husband at Swisher- James Vance. I knew Shirley cause my sister graduated with her ! They were both so very nice, loving couple . I didn’t know John had Parkinson’s my husband had it to but when he passed he had a massive heart attack just this August.
Well now they will be together again like always ! So sorry for your loss. God Bless the families ! Take Care !
