John Michael Clark, 73, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Wheeling’s Continuous Care Center.

He was born in Wheeling, January 25, 1950 a son of the late Richard T. and Grace (Kimpel) Clark. John was a quick-witted and dedicated family man who enjoyed Nascar Racing, as well as college football & basketball, especially the WVU Mountaineers. He also was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. John was a member of St. Michael Parish from birth. He attended both St. Michael Parish School and Central Catholic High School. For twenty years he lovingly and devotedly volunteered at the Kids’ Ticket Booth at the Parish Festival, tearing rolls of tickets and accounting for every penny that the booth took in.

John began working at a very young age at Clark’s Shell Service, which his father owned. His insurance career began at Alfred Paull & Son following his graduation from West Virginia University’s School of Business. Throughout his career, he continually studied and achieved insurance credentials including an Associate in Underwriting degree and finally the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Designation. The sale of Alfred Paull caused John to leave West Virginia and continue insurance underwriting at Traveler’s and Donegal Mutual Insurance Companies. In 2000 upon returning to Wheeling to be closer to family, John worked at Steele Insurance, St. Clairsville, OH and A & B Auto, now Benwood, WV. Finally he joined Paull Associates in Wheeling from where he retired in 2018. Family, friends and co-workers as well as clients knew they always could count on John.

In addition to his parents and grandparents he is preceded in death by his sister, Katherine “Kitty” Clark Hackenberg.

John is survived by his loving wife, Donna (Marazita) Clark; his sons, Jack (Renee) Clark of Ashland, VA and Michael Clark of Fort Mill, SC; his daughters, Christina (Ryan) Sullivan of Reynoldsburg, OH and Julie Blake of Wheeling, WV; nine grandchildren, Skyler, Grace, Janessa, Adam, Romeo, Jamarri, Benjamin, Lillian, & Kayvon; two brothers, Richard A. Clark of Rockville, MD and James (Sharon) Clark of Wheeling, WV; two sisters, Carole (Dr. Thomas) Kozicki of Centerburg, OH and Wendy of Bridgeport, OH; his brother-in-law, Errol Hackenberg of Moon Township, PA.

Family and friends will be received Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 2-6 pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, Monday, July 31 at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Parish or School, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003, Central Catholic High School, 75-14 th Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 or to Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center, 125-18 th Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
