He was born June 1, 1918 in Wheeling, the son of the late Joseph and Helen Shimek Synowiec, Sr.
Joe was a retired machinist with Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, and Our Lady of Peace Knights of Columbus #12195.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret J Hudimac Synowiec in 2010, a sister, Helen, and two brothers, Frank and Bernard.
Surviving are his three children: Charles Synowiec (Mindy Gaddis) of Punta Gorda, FL., Jane Pysell of Houston, TX, and Phyllis Amrhein (Paul) of Wheeling, a brother-in-law, Dale Hannan of Jacksonville, FL, and sister-in-law Alberta Burlenski (Bob) of Lafferty, OH, ten grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special “THANKS” to dad’s dear friends, Bob Pockl and Bob Schmitt, and the other members of the St. Michael’s Knights of Columbus, who welcomed him to play Eucher with them every Monday and Thursday for several years. That was a special part of his life, and he took great pleasure in not only making new friends but winning quarters from his card playing brothers each week.
Also, a special “thank you” to Mike (his sports buddy who helped him cheer on the Steelers and Mountaineers) and Mary Uhlly for being very caring and supportive, especially during his last few weeks of life.

So sorry for your lost. What a great man. Joe always had a smile on his face or a kind uplifting word as he asked you how you were. Way before your mother passed away they used to sit by my family at church and it would always end up in just a few words but for some reason those words were comforting to my wife and I. My wife through the years has battles cancer and it never failed when I would see Joe he would always ask “how is Judy doing, she is in my prayers”. God has chosen a wonderful man to bring home to His kingdom, a man that has worked very hard 99 years putting it all together for that GREAT DAY. I only wished that I could of been there when he entered heaven because he deserves it. Rest in peace Joe. I know your wife was there to greet you with a big hug and smile.

Charles, Jane, and Phyllis, I am so sorry about the death of your father. I’m so sorry I could not come, I tried my best but alas was unable. You lost a great father and I lost the best Uncle I ever had. Uncle Joe is in a better place, along side Aunt Margaret forever. Love.
