Kathryn “Kathy” Irene Martin, 63, of McMechen, peacefully entered the gates of Heaven on Monday, November 28, 2016.
She was born May 17, 1953, a daughter of the late George Forrest and Kathryn Ellen (Webb) Criswell. Kathy was a member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, Wheeling.
She is survived by her husband, of 30 years, Mark Martin; two children, Todd Thompson of Charleston, WV, and Katie (Alex) Inclan of Glen Dale, WV.; three grandchildren, who were the loves of her life, Masyn, Colin, and Jaxon Inclan; two brothers, Jack (Sandy) Criswell of McMechen and Kenn (PI) Criswell of Pittsburgh, PA.; one sister, Jane (Don) Rickman of McMechen; special nieces, Sarah (Pete) Criswell Grigsby and Jessica Criswell and great-nephew and Niece Noah and Kennsie Grigsby. Several other nieces and nephews, friends, family and patients made her world complete.
Kathy loved helping people. Her faith in God was unsurpassable. She served him here on Earth daily and now walks beside him. She was selfless and loving and knew no stranger. She was one of the first females to join the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department in 1980, where she served as past secretary and treasurer and was a life member. She was also part of the Women’s Auxiliary Club. Kathy graduated from the BM Spurr School of Nursing. She was an active member of the Ladies League of Marshall County and past member of the Marshall Co. Health Board. Kathy was the Office Manager at Glen Dale Medicine and Pediatrics. Kathy had a love of life that will never be forgotten. She touched every life she came in contact with. She had a gentle, caring spirit and she will live forever in the hearts of those she loved.

Kathy was the best nurse ever, period. I was just notified of her passing, as I’ve been living out of state for almost two years. She went above and beyond to be the amazing person that she was. I know the Valley will never be the same again.

Todd, heard about your mother’s sudden death yesterday when I was at the YWCA for a workout. It is so hard to find the right words to address the lose of your mother. I know that you were close and, therefore, feel a deep grief. Please know that I am carrying you with me as you move forward, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

To the Martin and Crisswell families, Kathy was just wonderful in all ways. I remember working with her at Reynolds. She never changed, kind and compassionate. She’s the one that always gave love, empathy and made you feel special. She is in the best of hands now, we’re just here to celebrate her earthly life. God speed Kathy. Joette zeigler
