Margaret Elizabeth Scheibelhood, 87, of Wheeling, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Wheeling Hospital.
She was born November 20, 1929 in the St. Joseph’s Settlement area of Wetzel County, WV Margaret was the youngest daughter and last surviving child of the late Theodore N. and Amelia C. Blatt Scheibelhood.
Margaret was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. She was retired from the Wheeling Island Convenient Food Mart after more than 20 years of service. For the last few months, she was a resident of Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Margaret was a woman of quiet strength and uncommonly good common sense. Her amiable personality seemed to be reflected in the glow of her lovely, fair complexion, a glow that was evident even in recent days of illness. An animal lover who had respect for all God’s creatures, she will surely continue to be missed by Sugar, the cat she helped care for. Margaret was fond of music, particularly good, old fashioned country music. Born into a family that was musically inclined, she taught herself to play the piano by ear, following in the footsteps of some of the older ladies of her family. As Margaret’s mind was active and alert to the end, nieces Mary and Ginny would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff of Good Shepherd Nursing Home and its Activities Department for bringing a measure of happiness to Margaret’s last days.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, Eugene and Paul Scheibelhood; sisters, Mary Hohman, Theresa Shutler, Clara and Catherine Scheibelhood, as well as an infant brother.
Margaret is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 5-8pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St. Wheeling, WV, where a vigil service will be conducted at 7:30pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 9:30am at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Msgr. Kevin Quirk as celebrant.
Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice in Margaret’s memory.
