Margaretta Jane “Peg” Minch, 97, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 at her home with family by her side.
She was born in Wheeling, April 1, 1924, a daughter of the late Albert C. and Bertha M. (Nickerson) Walters. Peg was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the West Virginia Farm Bureau. During WWII, Peg worked at the Ammunition Factory making bullet shells. Baseball played a huge part in her life, in her youth she played on the local mushball team with the “Patterson Girls Play Group” and throughout the years became an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles “Chuck” Minch; one daughter, Kathleen Lee Minch; one son, Gary R. Minch; one daughter-in-law, Maria Minch; a granddaughter, Miranda Arnold; one great-grandson, Logan Minch and two brothers, Jack and Glenn Walters.
Peg is survived by six children, Janie (Lee) Hendershot of Bridgeport, OH, Chuck (Edie) Minch of West Alexander, PA, Janet Nichols of Wheeling, David (Barbara) Minch of West Alexander, Jim (Trudy) Minch of West Alexander and Terri (Robert) Arnold of Moundsville, WV; one brother, Jerry Walters of Wheeling; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one on the way; numerous nieces and nephews and her loving dog companion,Wiley.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Valley Hospice for all their hard work and support and to Dr. Lisa Hill for her care.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, July 27, 2021, from 2-8 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, July 28, at 12:30 pm with Fr. Gary Naegele officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
