Meredith L “Mary Lou” (Shelek) Guckert, 69, of Wheeling WV, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at home, with family by her side, after a lengthy illness.

She was born November 18, 1953 in Wheeling, WV. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence B. “Bert” Sr. and Ercella H. (Hixenbaugh) Shelek and her beloved brother, C. Bert Shelek Jr.

Mary Lou was a devoted loving mother and friend. She was an avid Steeler fan and supporter and a 1971 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Wheeling. She was employed by Wheeling Wholesale Grocery for 28 years, followed by 13 years at Culligan Water.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Thomas Guckert; her son Brad T. Guckert (Caitlin) of Cincinnati, OH; her loving sister Leslie Manning (Larry); cousin, Kim Wilds and aunt, Margaret Schenerlein, all of Wheeling. Also survived by family members, Jan Armstrong, Lynne Shelek, Judy Raab, Joanne (Larry) Auber, Jean MacEwan, nieces, nephews, and close cousins Linda Hissom and Sundae Fassig and her pet cat, Milo.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Etta Brand, for being her dedicated nurse as she made her final journey.

A Memorial Gathering will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St, Wheeling, WV, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Private burial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Tom and Brad, We were so sorry to hear of Mary Lou s passing. We are remembering all the fun times with you and the sports our guys played together. I think Mary Lou was their biggest cheerleader! Brad, your Mom loved you so much and was so proud of you. Family meant everything to Mary Lou. Take care of yourselves and we will keep you in our prayers. God bless from Joe and Carmel
