Michael G. Burke, age 64, of Wheeling, passed away on February 14, 2022. He is the son of the late Stephen Burke of Florida. Mike resided at Twin Acres West in Warwood, with his second family. Blessed with the love of his Twin Acres family and staff, Mike touched the hearts of each one of them in a special way.
Mike was a long-term employee at the WATCH Sheltered Workshop in Wheeling, and later retired from Russell Nesbitt Day Services. He enjoyed WWF Wrestling, especially cheering for John Cena. Mike loved Rock ‘n Roll music, dancing and singing to KISS and Guns and Roses.
Mike never knew a stranger, and everyone was his buddy. Oh he loved life, and his laughter was contagious. His zest for life unmatched.
He was a participant in Special Olympics, and was honored to be a flag carrier. Track and Field was his specialty, and he was always a winner. Mike loved sports, especially the Steelers, WVU and Penn State. He always said they won.
Mike loved watching the local ball teams that played at the Lock 12 Field in Warwood. From the Warwood Redbirds and the area baseball teams to the girls softball teams, Mike loved being part of the sport. Mike was never drafted for a team, but was always a player. He rarely missed a game, and thanks to the generous nature of the teams and coaches he always ran the bases. Mike always proudly sported Warwood Redbirds hats, thanks to the thoughtful coaches. Mike is now playing for the biggest team of all, and he no doubt was drafted first!
The staff at Twin Acres would like to extend thanks to Amedisys Hospice for the care and services they provided to Mike and to the staff.
Family and friends will be received at Altmeyer Funeral Homes 1400 Eoff Street on Monday, February 21, 2022 from 12:00 pm until the time of services at 1:30 pm with Chaplain Jon Hudall officiating.
Interment will be held privately at Mount Calvary Cemetery – Wheeling, WV.

While growing up in Warwood, Mike was a “fixture” who could make you smile and laugh no matter what your mood. Truly infectious personality!
May all find comfort in their memories of Mike and that as we remember him, God does too. John 5:28,29

I worked with Mike for 12 years and it was an honor to do so. So many happy memories with working with him everyday. I will always remember his big smile and his contagious laugh! I will also never forget how happy and excited he was when we took him to wwe wrestling shows! I’m so very sad that I could not be there today to say goodbye to him, but I will keep his memories with me always!

We have so many great memories with Mike. He would join our family for Christmas Eve celebrations and Fourth of July parties. They were large gatherings of family and friends, and Mike was the center of attention. He was loved by all and shared his excitement with everyone. Our lives are richer because of the joy that Mike gave us. He will be remembered with love ❤️.

Mike will forever be Redbird! I played at 3rd street in the 80s and 90s and grew up in Warwood. Mike was at every game cheering us on. I will never forgot how excited he was to put on a helmet and run the bases. Such a loving person!

Mike was always a fan of the baseball field and games. Mike always asked me if I would bring him a cake or pie. When I would pull up in my car from shopping he would joyfully come outside to help unload and knew the dessert would be there.
Mike was a friend to me and to Diana for many years and he will be truly missed.
