Michael Patrick McNeil, 57, of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2023, following a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Michael was born to the late Frank R. McNeil, Sr. and Rosalie McNeil on September 14, 1965.

Mike graduated from Wheeling Park High School in 1983. He worked at Northwood Health Systems for 30 years working in direct care for autistic and mentally ill individuals. Over the years, he worked with some great co-workers who became life-long friends. Mike loved music, kitschy collectables, old movies, and Jamison Whiskey. His love of music was further fueled when, in 2017, he wandered into Nail City Records. There he met owners Jon Napier and partner Molly, who introduced him to new music and collectors from around the world who shared his same passion. Over the years, his collection grew to over 2.000 albums.

He is survived by his mother, Rosalie McNeil; his wife, Lisa and son, Liam; brothers, Frank R. McNeil, Jr. (Connie) of Tiltonsville, Ohio, Bruce McNeil (Pam) of Wheeling; sister, Kathleen McNeil and her partner Brian Scott of Wheeling; In-law’s, Stanley and Mary Jane Rogerson; brother-in-law and best friend, Kieth Rogerson (Martha); sisters-in-law, Donna White(David) and Carrie Casto(Ron) of Wheeling; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and dear friends.

I did not know of his passing until today. As a fellow Jameson drinker and Waterman, I mourn his passing:
Search by Poem or Poet
Crossing the Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.”

Mike inspired us all at Northwood to care more deeply for the people we serve. He was truly a special person and I consider it a privilege to have worked with him for many years. My sincere condolences to his family and close friends.

McNeil Family, We are so sorry for your loss. He was greeted at heavens gate by your Dad, Uncle Mac and Uncle Tom. All three fighting over who is going to greet him. I’m sure Uncle Mac won!!! Unless your Grandma Alice broke up the fight.

I am so sorry to see that your father passed. He was so proud watching you swim.
I wish I had seen this earlier so that I could have come to see you at one of the visitations.
Stay strong.

To Frankie, Kathleen, Bruce: Mike was always such a nice guy! Great memories of us growing up. Couple of fun Mike stories: All us Island Rats had our fair share of skipping school. Often, quite often, Mike would ask me “Hey, Jenny, write me an excuse”. I wrote him so many excuses that when your mom wrote a note the school questioned her signature. ISS again. Years later I did tell your mom and dad. We all had a good laugh. One other really funny one: A whole bunch of us kids from the Island ended up in a summer school class. Probably from missing too much school,,, So, one of us (no names haha) had a keg in their trunk up in Parks parking lot. It’s like 95 degrees out, we are all sweating, trying to figure out how we can get to this warm beer right. Theres Mike, wearing his fav jacket, even in all that heat. Mike walks over to see what’s going on and just casually pulls a long tap out of his jacket. Hilarious. Can’t make this shit up.
Mike was a good guy, thats for sure. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To Rosalie: You did a good job mama. Lots of love, hugs, and Prayers.
To Mr Frank, you can hug your son once again.

With heartfelt condolences,
Jennifer Fugate
