Paul William Douglass

March 12, 1927 - January 12, 2023

03/12/1927 - 01/12/2023

Paul William Douglass, 95, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Mr. Douglass lived in Wheeling, WV for the last thirteen (13) years with his daughter, Diana Douglass and granddaughters, Katie Marcum and Alexi Walsh after relocating from Gerrardsrown, WV.

Paul was born in Horseheads, NY to the late Royal Manville and Ruby (Artman) Douglass on March 12, 1927.

After graduating high school, Paul joined the Army and proudly served his country in World War II based in Italy. Paul was among the first to pioneer the use of Information Technology in the US Military by helping develop and build the Army’s first computers. After leaving the Army, Paul went on to join IBM as an Engineer and later retired from USAA as a Data Engineer. Somewhere in the midst of all he had accomplished, Paul also found time to attend Baptist Bible Seminary of Binghamton, NY where he studied music. Throughout his life Paul enjoyed music and theater and will be remembered for his beautiful tenor voice. Although Paul was proud of all he had accomplished in his career, he was most proud to call himself a husband, father, and faithful child of God. In 2009, Paul had to say goodbye to the love of his life, Barbara. He longed for the day he would be with her again in Heaven. Paul and Barbara had a beautiful and full life together. Their journey began by eloping from New York to Georgia as young adults. The couple welcomed four (4) children who they adored. After retiring, the couple settled in Gerrardstown, WV where they enjoyed running a Bed and Breakfast together. This adventure allowed them to partake of their hobbies such as, woodworking, crafting, landscaping, and making and enjoying food and sweets.

In addition to his parents and his devoted wife, Barbara (Mahoney) Douglass, Paul is preceded in death by his brothers; Arthur, Royal, James, and Hugh Douglass.

Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his children; Sandra (Ray) Birch of Vancouver, WA, Diana Douglass of Wheeling, WV, Rev. Paul (Sheryl) Douglass of Geneva, NY, and Karen Douglass of Bath, NY; twelve (12) grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and two (2) great-great-grandchildren as well as, several nieces and nephews.

Services are pending and will be held at Sullivans Funeral Home in Horseheads, NY.
