Paula Kellas Thomas, age 74 of California, Pennsylvania, formerly of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Dax (Jan) Thomas on Thursday evening, November 29, 2018. She was the second daughter born to Paul and Mable Kellas on July 30, 1944. She was also the step-daughter to Harold Riggle.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Coach Jim Thomas.
She is survived by her children Katina (Brian) Carlstrom of Rockville Centre, New York, Nikki Thomas Casuccio of Fairmont, West Virginia, James (Tara) Thomas of Wheeling, West Virginia, Dax (Jan) Thomas of California, Pennsylvania, nine grandchildren, Luke Carlstrom, Lexi Casuccio, J.T. Carlstrom, Jett Thomas, Geno Casuccio, Sam Thomas, Kianna Casuccio, Colt Thomas, Drew Thomas, Sisters, Rebecca (Michael) Ujcich of Lexington, Tennessee, Katina Kellas-Coyne of Wheeling, West Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a 1962 graduate of Wellsburg High School, and 1963 graduate of the School of Cosmetology in Wheeling, West Virginia. In 1962, she was the Wellsburg Queen of Queens candidate and remained active with this program throughout the coming years with the Rudy Mumley OVAC football game and Queen of Queens Pageants. She had her own business in Warwood, West Virginia called “The House of Beauty”, which she operated until her children were born. She worked as a private duty nurse for several years, taking care of the elderly, was the former fundraising coordinator for the Cockayne Farmstead in Glendale, and was very involved with the Democratic Women’s Society of West Virginia. She was the Cheering Coach for Wheeling Central for many years and loved working with the youth. She brought home many championships with her cheerleaders, as they developed a dynasty in the state.
She was a friend to all and enjoyed getting together with her classmates from every part of her life: the Beech Bottom girls, Wellsburg High School, Cosmetology, CCHS, and everyone else she met along her life’s travels. She will be remembered fondly by all that crossed her path, as someone who would be there in a moment’s notice to give aid, praise, or comfort.
The love of her life was family – especially her grandchildren; what a legacy she has left!
She was a member of Chapel Hill Christian Church in Beech Bottom, West Virginia.
Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-9pm on Monday, Dec. 3rd at Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, West Virginia. The funeral service will be held at 9am on Tuesday, Dec. 4th at Altmeyer Funeral Home, with Life Celebrant Sarah Barickman officiating.

Tina, Nikkie, JT and Dax, I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. I just heard today. She was such a wonderful person and so much fun. The talent she had was amazing. I was very fortunate to meet her at a young age and for her to be an inspiration in my life. From her acting and artistic ability, writing, cooking (loved the Greek pork chops) to her family values she will be missed so much. My sincere sympathy to you all!.
