Durkin, Rita Marie Kissel, 91, of Moundsville, formerly of Benwood, died Monday, February 27, 2017, at home.
She was born April 11, 1925, in Glen Dale, WV, daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Kissel.
Rita worked for the former Stone and Thomas Department Store, Wheeling, was a member of Slovak Catholics Sokol, 20 year Club for Stone and Thomas and a member of St John’s Catholic Church, Benwood.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Patrick J. Durkin; a brother, Joseph Kissel and a sister, Mary Ney.
Surviving are two daughters, Karin (Ralph) Raber of Toledo, Ohio and Debra “Debbie” Fogel of Glen Dale, WV.; a son, Patrick J Durkin (Beth) of Wheeling; seven grandchildren, Michael Tamm, Marcus Tamm, Christine Pawelak, Jamie Etzel, Jodi Fogle, Allison Durkin and Paige Durkin; six great-grandchildren, Tim, Bastiaan, Mathijs, Avery, Alexis and Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 10 am at St James Catholic Church, McMechen, WV., with Fr. Bekeh Ukelina Utietiang as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
