Rodney W. Eikey, 81, of Wheeling, joined his beloved bride in Heaven on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born January 25, 1936, the son of the late John E. and Eula M (Walk) Eikey.
Rodney was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and a proud U.S. Navy Veteran. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and began working part-time with the Diocese. Rodney was a member of the Wheeling Eagles Post #1891 and of the Knights of Columbus Carol Council 504, as well as many other fraternal organizations in the community.
An avid golfer, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Rodney was a huge supporter of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and on special occasions his family members could always count on “Pap” having a titch more of cake. Rodney also coached many different youth athletic teams for the Island Baseball Association, St. Ladislaus Parish, and Blessed Trinity Parish.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Veronica E. (Raszkiewicz) Eikey (2011); one son, Brian Eikey (1989); one great-granddaughter, Maria Haas, and one sister, Gerri Walters.
Rodney is survived by his eight children, Rodney E. (Rona) Eikey, Michael A. (Diane) Eikey, Jon P. (Janet) Eikey, Michelle L. (Steven) Novotney, Rhonda A. (Matt) Miklas, Barbie T. (Chuck) Namack, Karen S. (Brent) Flowers, and Veronica (Lorren) Lewis; four siblings, John G. Eikey, William (Shari) Eikey, Betsy Wilson, Carolyn Golien; and 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Sunday, May 7, 2017 from noon to 3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 1400 Eoff Street.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, May 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary.

To the Eikey family of one of the nicest, most personable, guys we’ve ever known. Though Mr. Eikey will be deeply missed, he has left behind many wonderful memories for everyone who knew him. We are so thankful to have known him. Know now that he has begun his eternal life with his wife in heaven. John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
