Rose Josephine Purpura, 96, of Benwood, WV, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Continuous Care Center Wheeling Hospital.

She was born in Benwood, October 4, 1924, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Prezkop) Szeligo. Rose was an active member of the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She was a talented seamstress and truly enjoyed all the time she spent with her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bartholomew Purpura (2002); three brothers, John, Chester and Walter Szeligo; two sisters, Mary Ann Rzepka and Dorothy Mathys and a son-in-law, Daniel Krulcik.

Rose is survived by her four daughters, Rosemary Purpura of Benwood, Patricia Purpura of Benwood, Christine Krulcik of Martins Ferry, OH and Janet (Michael) Simons of Triadelphia, WV; two sons, Joseph Purpura of Dry Fork, WV and James (Natalie) Purpura of Blairstown, NJ; five grandchildren, Frank (Stacey) Purpura, Chad (Charlotte) Purpura, Anthony Simons, Dr. Kaylee (BJ) Purpura-Ivey and Joshua Krulcik; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Lauren, Audrey, Alex and Ethan and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Continuous Care Center Wheeling Hospital for the loving and compassionate care she received.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at 11 am. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

To the Purpura Family,

Please accept my belated condolences on the death of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Rose.

Rose was a lovely woman, a wonderful neighbor and a friend of our family. May she Rest In Peace and may you find comfort in the fond memories of the time you had with her.
