Shirley Ann (Elias) Nickerson, 81, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born September 2, 1935, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Amelia (Brock) Elias. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Nursing Academy, Parkersburg, W.Va.; and member of Corpus Christi Parish, Wheeling. Being a devoted mother, grandmother and registered nurse were Shirley’s greatest accomplishments. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by six sisters, Rose Bernard, Mary Lonetta, Madeline Elias, Helen McGannon, Jean Elias and Margaret Elias. She is survived by her son, Don (Lori) Nickerson of Wheeling; her daughter, Tammy Strong (Robbie Saseen) of Wheeling; a grandson, Elijah Nickerson; a granddaughter, Emma Nickerson; two nephews, Anthony (Michelle) Lonetta and Nick Lonetta, both of Steubenville, Ohio; a great nephew, Christopher Lonetta; and a great-niece, T.J. Lonetta.
Shirley’s family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and nurses of Good Shepherd Nursing Home for their loving care and dedication, especially 1 South.
Friends will be received from 3-7 pm, Friday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am, Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Our Lady Lebanon Church, with Monsignor Bakhos Chidiac as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
