Stephen Zelinsky, 94, loving, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on February 22 after a short illness. He was known for his love of church, his strong Byzantine Catholic Faith, his life of integrity and his love of family. He proudly served his country in WWII as a medic in the U.S. Army and was owner/operator of Sonotone of Wheeling for over 30 years. He was a proud member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church, the St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159 and the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Peace Council 4243.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Erma Ruth, daughters; Susan (Richard) Ryncarz of Wheeling, Julia (Ed) Barkhurst of Adena, Mary Beth (Stephen) Simich of Akron and Ann (Richard) Marling of Shadyside, grandchildren; Kara (fiance’Justin Jordan) Ryncarz, Kelsey (Sean) Turner, Faith Barkhurst, Sarah, Michael (fiance’ Denielle Burnett), Matthew and Maria Simich, Ryan Marling and great grandson, Weston Turner.
Friends will be received on Monday, February 26, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where Parastas service will be conducted at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 28 at 10:00am with Father Jason Charron officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help building fund, 4136 Jacob St., Wheeling, WV 26003.
Special thanks to Father Jason Charron for all his prayers and support and to all our friends and family who have prayed for our family. We also want to thank the wonderful staff at Valley Hospice Liza’s Place for their exceptional care and support for our Dad (Pop-Pop) and our family.

You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. I am so glad my ohana got to visit you this past year. I always told them how great of a man you were!! Mahalo nui loa for always helping my mom over the years. Mahalo for turning my wife on to your wine of choice–Sangria–which is now her wine of choice daily and it is also affordable.(lol)!!Mahalo! siester Jeanne was kind ti inform me about passing of Blessed Memory + Steven Zelinsky. My fors reaction was to go to Wheeling and personally express my condolences to his Wifw Ruth, and all the Member of his family – I remember from our Jubilee… But problms with my health (shingle) is iving me hard time to travel this long trip from Cleveland to Wheeling. Sorry for that! Steve and all of you deserve even more!
I will offer tomorrow morninf Divine Liturgy for His Blessed Repose and for Protection Blessed MAry over you all.
Please accept my synpaties and prayers – I owe you for your kindness during my seven years of service in Wheeling.
