ACKER, Waneta, 95, of Saint Clairsville, Ohio and formerly of Lansing, Ohio died Monday, November 23, 2015 at Wheeling Hospital.
She was born June 23, 1920 in Lansing, Ohio, a daughter of the late Squire William and Ottie (Clemens) Britton. She was a former member of the Lansing United Methodist Church in Lansing, Ohio. She was past President of the Bridgeport Child Study Group, a charter member of the Bridgeport Women’s Club, past President of the Bridgeport Alumni Association, a member of AARP, a member of the Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary, the past President of Ohio Valley Life Underwriters Association, a board member of the Friends of WVNCC, a board member of the Upper Ohio Valley Street Festival, a member of Senior Services, a member of the Mount Saint Joseph Auxiliary, a member of the Wheeling Island Community Association, a member of the Ohio County Democratic Association, and was named Democrat of the year in 1990 and 2003.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian and Virginia Britton, two brothers, J.W. Britton and Kenneth C. Britton, and one grandson, James K. Acker.
She is survived by one son, Glenn J. (Margie) Acker of Charleston, W.Va.; one daughter, Susan Lynn (George) Gabel of Saint Clairsville; four grandchildren, Robert A. (Cheryl) Gabel Sr. of Saint Clairsville, D.J. Milligan of Saint Clairsville, Erin R. (Ernie) Cain of Saint Clairsville, and Kelly (Christey) Kauff of Charleston; and seven great grandchildren, Robert (Tracey) Gabel Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Bailey Cain of Rayland, Ohio, Jared Cain of Rayland, Ohio, Logan Kauff of Charleston, Julia Kauff of Charleston, Kailey Kauff of Charleston, and Ben Gable, the pride of her life.
Friends will be received on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 2-8 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11 am with Rev. Richard Shoda officiating. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Blaine, Ohio.
