Throughout his life, Bud had an esteemed career as a pilot. He served as a Captain for Eastern Airlines and flew for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel/WHX Corporation. He later completed his career by serving as the Chief Pilot and Flight Department Director for the University of Notre Dame. Apart from his professional and family life, Bud held a special place in his heart for his community of faith at St. Michael’s Parish. He was a very proud member of the American Legion Post 1. Bud’s service extended to his country as well, as he was a Designated Naval Aviator in 1960 and flew the Grumman S-2 Tracker as a member of VS-24 aboard the USS Intrepid. He was decorated with various honors, including the Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba, CVSG-56-DET 14, VS-24) and the National Defense Service Medal.

“I had the pleasure of working with Bud when he was the Chief Pilot for the University of Notre Dame. Both he & Elenor were a tremendous pair to be around. Great people & big Notre Dame fans. And in deference to his Naval Aviator background…”Fair winds and following seas, shipmate.” Rest in Peace.”
Sincere condolences. ALS is a horrible disease. After a year battle it took my wonderful wife on 2/3 2023.

Aunt Eleanor and family;
I want to offer my condolences and pryer in your time of loss. Uncle Bud was one of the best. He was an Uncle you enjoyed seeing and being around. He was a true role model, especially as he faced his illness. In the tradition of the US Navy he fought against all odds to not give up the ship, and fight to the end. He demonstrated to all of us how to face the inevitable. Our faith and beliefs tell us we will see him again. As the gospel song says we will all meet in heaven and when we are in the arms of Jesus what a glorious moment that will be.
My heart goes out to you all my husband passed with ALS 14 years ago he had a long 10 year battle
So sorry for your loss, prayers with all your family. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
