William Franklin “Bill” Hooker, Sr., 83, of Moundsville, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016, in Acuity Specialty Hospital, Bellaire, Ohio.

Bill was born July 17, 1933 in Moundsville, a son of the late Charles and Ruth (Trenter) Hooker. He was retired buggy driver for the Valley Camp Coal Co., Alexander Mine; and a member of the Moundsville Baptist Church, the Moundsville Eagles and the V.F.W., Petersburg, W.Va. He was also a former member of the Moose Lodge, Moundsville; and was a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Denny Arthur Hooker; his sister, Betty Derrow; and his dog and best friend, Molly.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn “Ruth” (Nelson) Hooker; children, William (Joan “Buttons”) Hooker, Jr. of Moundsville, Jay (Greta) Hooker of Moundsville, Risa (Ron Tranovich) Love of Bellaire, Ohio, Carl “Nelson” Hooker of Moundsville and Billy (Vicki) Williams of Moundsville; a brother, Jack (Bonnie) Hooker of Moundsville; two sisters, Virginia (Danny) Whitlatch of Moundsville and Sondra (Clifton) Yocum of Cameron, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Zach Hooker, Susie (John “Bull”) Lucas, T.J. Hooker, Jill Rush, Capt Nelson (Kristen) Hooker, Carl Hooker, Raymond Williams, Brandon (Emily) Rickman; and 11 great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Kyler, Cole, Jade, Jesse, Annie, Dalton, Montana, Charley, Ty and Nolan.

Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Thursday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Friday, October 7, 2016, with the Rev. Ron Price officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.
