William Lee Ney, 96, formerly of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016, in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mr. Ney was born January 24, 1920 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late William L. Ney and Mildred (Henderson) Ney Ricer. He was a retired film director for WTRF Channel 7 News, having began his career at WTRF in 1953, just two months prior to the station going on the air. He was also a graduate of Bellaire High School and the Pittsburgh School of Photography; a U.S. Navy World War II veteran; and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wheeling, the Wheeling Hilltoppers Model Aircraft Club and the Polar Bear Golf Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys V. (McCloud) Ney, in 2008; a daughter, Linda Lee Mahoney; a brother, Charles Ney; and a sister, Emma Lou Palavido.
Mr. Ney is survived by his son William (Leslie) Ney of Pittsburgh; a brother, Bob (Dorothy) Ney of Bellaire, Ohio; three grandchildren, Yvonne (Tom) Rogge of Raleigh, N.C. and Ian Lee Ney and Alecia Marie Ney of Pittsburgh; two great-grandsons, Richard Brandon LaFleur and Ryan James LaFleur; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Bill, I am so sorry for your loss, I remember all of the stories you used to tell me about your Dad while we were adding the safe at night, now when you fly your planes he will sail through the skies with them from Heaven. My prayers are with you all.
